South Wilts Group has over 300 members and is managed by a committee of twelve, elected annually by the membership. Our dual functions are organising a walks programme and keeping footpaths open and accessible. We also have a programme of social activities.
Newcomers are very welcome to join up to three walks on a trial basis. We walk on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and some Wednesdays. We also welcome volunteers to assist the Heavy Gang installing gates and footbridges or the Path Clearance Team maintaining overgrown footpaths. We work in partnership with Wiltshire Council Rights of Way Officer and can report an impressive number of paths cleared and hours worked.
Our busy programme of walks is dependent on walk leaders coming forward and we always need more. We can arrange training opportunities such as map-reading and first aid.
The Group tries to keep up to date with local developments, particularly changes in policy which might impact on the accessibility of footpaths or the opportunities for walking in South Wilts.
We collaborate with Salisbury Walking for Health.
